In-situ Growing Carbon Nanotubes on Nickel Modified Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites for EMI Application

Glass fiber (GF) reinforced polymer composites have attracted increasing attention due to their excellent performance. In this study, GF was coated by a thin layer of nickel, and then grafted carbon nanotubes (CNTs) array chemical vapor deposition method (CVD). The CNT contents can be varied changing the CVD conditions. Three types fillers, nickel (GF@Ni), with grown CNTs (GF-CNTs) nickel-coated (GF@Ni-CNTs), were used prepare epoxy composites. electromagnetic interference shielding performances investigated as function contents. GF@Ni-CNTs composites, which had mass ratio 9.2 wt% hybrids, showed best EMI performance among Their total effectiveness (SE) higher than 35 dB in range 1–18 GHz, above 50 X band. By incorporating on surface, same achieved lower content. For achieving SE value band, it needed GF@Ni-CNTs/epoxy 3.8 instead GF-CNTs/epoxy 5.2 hybrids.
